International Students Perform Traditional Chinese Music at Wooster School

Three international students enrolled at Wooster school in Danbury, Connecticut, performed a traditional piece of Chinese music for their peers and faculty members. The three students, Kelly, Trista, and Sunny, were excited to perform for the upper students and faculty during chapel – a school institutionalized time of reflection and sharing with one another.

Kelly, Trista, and Sunny chose to share their Chinese heritage by playing the piece with authentic instruments including the Guzheng, a Chinese plucked string instrument with more than 2,500 years of history. Trista sang the song in her native language and emulated the traditional style of the piece. Kelly showcased her skills on the Guzheng and was flawless in her delivery. Sunny handled the percussive side of the piece on the drum and provided the delicate backbone beat that complimented the Guzheng beautifully.

Kelly, a senior at Wooster, enrolled in Fall of 2015. She enjoys the art classes offered at Wooster and playing music. She has over seven years of experience playing the Guzheng. After Kelly graduates, she will attend the University of Arts, London College of Fashion, and major in Fashion Design.

Trista is also a senior at Wooster. She is one of the eleven international students who enrolled during Fall of 2014. This was her first year at Wooster partnered with Cambridge Network. She enjoys the intensive art classes offered at Wooster and singing. Trista is also in the school choir. At Wooster, Trista says she has learned to become an independent person and developed her critical thinking skills. Trista has been accepted to Northeastern University in Boston, and will major in Marketing and Fashion.

Sunny is currently a junior at Wooster and has been attending since Fall of 2015. She enjoys cross country, the intensive art classes offered at Wooster, and singing. Like Trista, she is also in the choir.

Our international students immerse themselves in U.S. culture on a daily basis. Kelly, Trista, and Sunny saw an opportunity flip the script and share their culture with their peers and faculty at Wooster. Click the link below to watch the performance.
