St. Mary's Online Academy (SMOA) is a global online learning platform offered by St. Mary's School, a renowned U.S. private preparatory school located in Medford, Oregon.

Jack O’Brien has been teaching in Asia since 2008. Being a lover of adventure and traveling, he moved to Shanghai China in 2008 where he became an ESL teacher and eventually head teacher who helped with quality control by observing teachers and providing constructive feedback as well as guidance for managers and teaching assistants.

Through the years Jack has taught Literature, Social Sciences and Physics at the High School Level. For the last three years Jack has consistently taught Social Sciences, including History, AP History, Geography (which is really Science with a Social element to it), AP Human Geography and AP Psychology. Having through the years developed his own teaching style, which is Student-Centered, he is excited to be a part of the St Mary’s family and looks forward to continuing the productive collaborations in class and online.

Our priority at St Mary’s are the needs of the students, which is why we implement differentiated instruction strategies, creating opportunities for personalized learning, and offering student-tailored, meaningful feedback, that facilitates growth on a personal and academic level.
